Hey everyone!

I’ve noticed that Pumpkin and Melon seem to be signed the same way. How do you guys show the difference when signing?

I don't know about these particular 2 but I know many signs are the same and you just have to understand which it is through context just like how many English words have multiple definitions and you just have to understand which one it is from context so perhaps these two are love that

Yeah, that makes sense! I was thinking it might be context too. Maybe if someone signs it in summer, it’s probably a watermelon, and in autumn a pumpkin 😅

I guess color could be a really useful way to tell the difference too. Like signing orange before pumpkin or yellow before melon makes it much clearer

well watermelon actually does have a sign. it's a compound sign with a w at the chin for water and then the sign for melon but other melons are just the melon sign

Yeah, that could work. Using a little extra word like 'ripe' or 'pie' might make it way easier to tell them apart! But you’d need to fingerspell the word.
