There is a screen under the first Numbers lesson that talks about general structure. Here are excerpts from it: Let’s take a look at general ASL structure: 1. Topic+comment 2. Time+Topic+comment Where -Time= the tense [this also refers to things like saying for breakfast or for lunch because it indicates a time of the day] -Topic=Subject/object -Comment=adjective/verbs then goes on to state … Important differences between English and ASL. -In ASL articles are never used -Verbs are always in simple form -Questions always go at the end It gives one example of a question. English -How do you feel? ASL -You feel how But it does not give any examples for typical sentences, or when adding numbers like how many of an object. And even when speaking in English, we can change the order of phrases, like we can say, “For breakfast, I would like bacon with eggs.” and in ASL, we actually will sign it in that order, but you’re not allowed to say that it means the same way in English. Thus app demands it be translated as “I would like bacon with eggs for breakfast.” Apparently it’s wrong to say the answer is “For breakfast, I would like bacon with eggs.” And in my opinion, that should not be marked wrong if you actually say it the first way. English in and of itself is so flexible, yet it seems like ASL has no flexibility. That particular sentence was not one I got wrong, but there was another one I kept getting wrong and now I have no idea how it’s supposed to be in this app won’t tell me how it’s supposed to be so I got it wrong both times I took the exam. so the app did not teach me how to properly say it. and that is where this app is failing. I have not learned how to properly say it. They should not test what they have not taught. That’s the first rule in education.
