I am Chris, School Counselor/504 Coordinator & LPC-Intern Angelo State University, in Texas who's also DHH- hard of hearing bilaterally. From childhood- late adolescence I used hearing aids, but for family religious reasons wasn't able to participate in ASL classes. As an adult I currently use hearing aids bilaterally, but I knew I lacked the strength in the area of ASL Sign Language communication and interpretation. Moving forward, I want to provide one more additional support for my students, as well as for myself. I look forward to meeting others and hope there are learning communities.

that's great that you want to learn yourself. I'm sorry that you didn't get the access that you needed at a young age I hope all the best

Way to go, Chris! Iโ€™m a native Texan (native Houstonian to be exact!) and and just starting this journey. My sister-n-law is deaf, but is excellent at reading lips, and she can speak - think of the actress Marlee Matlin. ASL is such a beautiful language and itโ€™s been really interesting learning and practicing. I wish you the best and your students the best!
