"The dog is brown" vs. "A brown dog"?

Can someone help differentiate how to sign these? I just started learning via this app and feel silly for not understanding the difference?

As far as I understand, ASL is contextual. The first one, the dog is brown, is a full sentence stated as "dog brown." While the second, a brown dog, most likely isn't the full sentence and is the topic which comes first. An example would be "brown dog I have." I'm not a professional I just enjoy strengthening my ASL and passing on what I learned from the app. Have a great day

I am wondering when… *The person you are talking about is not present* Say your in a conversation and your talking about “him” or “her”, do you specify in the conversation, “girl” before you point on the side of you or “boy” to be specific in who you are talking about? Thx

Hello intersign! I've only recently started learning ASL and was wonder if anyone has any tips for remembering the different grammer rules and general structure of ASL. I find that whenever I try to practice, I always accidentally slip into English structure. Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance!
