what condition are you learning ASL for?
I'm learning because I have autism, adhd, anxiety, apd, and I'm getting hearing aids
sign names
I am not deaf and I’d like to understand why half of the deaf community feels very protective over the concept of sign names and the other half feels very neutral towards it saying it’s just like a nickname.
Sign Name
I know you're supposed to get your sign name from a deaf person. My baby passed away at three months, and I hadn't gotten a chance to find the deaf community around me so she didn't get her name sign. I really would like for her to have a cool one. I want to be able to talk about her without finger spelling her name. I wasn't born deaf so I want to respect the culture. Does anyone know how I can get her name sign? Her name is Jaden.
🌺🌸What does ASL community mean to you?🌸🌺
The ASL community includes deaf people, hard of hearing people, children of deaf adults, allies of a deaf person, family members who have a deaf relative and people who know ASL. This community means belonging, caring, loving, and understanding to me.
offensive or not?
is it offensive to use ASL when not talking to deaf people? my friend signs when songs play but nobody around us is deaf.
🌺🌸why are you learning ASL?🌸🌺
I am learning ASL because my best friend is deaf and with people who do know ASL, she doesn’t have her hearing aids in, and I want to support her and become more close with her so that’s why I am learning ASL. Also, because I think it’s a fun way to connect to so many more people, cultures, and communities. Why are you?
ASL is actually really important
ASL is actually really important. I learned that last year during Christmas time during the middle of the year when me and my friend were learning ASL for the school year. During our church events, we were doing a booth and this deaf group came up to us and at first we didn’t know that they had a translator, but we decided to try to sign the story out and we did really good on it. Even though we didn’t do it really perfectly they still really appreciated it.
ASL
Hi hi! My brother is adopted from Africa. He is deaf but we didn’t know that until after he was put in my moms arms. We then started learning ASL in Africa. When we got back to the United States we got really involved with the deaf community. I ABSOLUTELY love ASL and I’m so happy to know it. I am mostly fluent but I want to be completely fluent. That is why I am taking asl lessons on this app!
A cat named Grey
So there's this cat named Grey. Should I fingerspell the name or use the sign for grey? Would that count as a signname in which I should fingerspell or would I use the sign for grey?
it’s time
Hi there guys
Helen Keller
Helen Keller was so cool because she learned to read and write and do All sorts of things all by herself even though she was DEAF and BLIND! She is such an inspiration to me!
hiii!
Idkk
ASL
I have a friend who is deaf and her name is Kiara Crawford
I'm learning
I'm learning just for fun because all my baby dolls (39)are deaf🦻
Asl class and their inaccessibility.
At least where I live, ASL classes are very inaccessible. There should be classes inside public schools. It's kinda stupid how hard it is to learn ASL (at least where I live). Not only is it a language, it's a means of accessibility. Why should a language for the deaf be so inaccessible? And it doesn't help that some PAID classes are textbooks. TEXTBOOKS. The teacher barely even knows the language! Anyways I'm done ranting.
How do I clap around a deaf person?
I was wondering how to clap around a deaf person. To me it seems rude too. Just wondering if there is anything I should do instead. Thank you.
Favourite Holiday Sign🌺
Hello! What is you favourite holiday sign? Mine is Halloween!😁
I love this app!
I really wanted to learn sign language and this app is the perfect place to do that!
halftime show thoughts?
Firstly, I loved the superbowl halftime show, as a non Spanish speaker! I thought it was a lot of fun! And then I saw clips of PRSL/ LSPR translators preforming as well and I felt so touched for those who felt represented! I couldn't understand the signs, but I had a smile and was dancing the whole time watching it! What did you guys think??
Totally Random Question.
Do deaf churches sing songs or do that only do preaching and praying? I know people can feel the vibrations and someone signing but I just don’t know. Thx ☺️
