Growing up with ASL

I’m curious if anyone else grew up like this but none of my family is deaf but my mother taught my brother, little sister, and me some basic signs before we could talk. She did it so we could communicate without just crying. Did anyone else learn ASL as a kid like this?

Is it the same sign for wourds with double meanings?

Is it the same sign for words like hot, which talk about spice, temperature, attractiveness, and popularity? Or are there different signs?

different signs for “sign”

Is there a difference between signing the verb “sign” and the noun “sign”? I’ve seen that for example “SIGN name” and “the word for the SIGN” are signed different but I’m not sure about it.

Today is going to be a great day

My son finally received his bilateral cochlear implant upgrade. Today we are going in to program and get him up-to-date with everything. It's been more than a decade since his last upgrade and both of those were discontinued. It's been a major struggle for him through this whole journey but, I'm putting on my mom face and will help him navigate today with positivity and love. Thank you all for being here and caring about the community that desperately needs more advocates. Have a great day everyone.
