Signing a song

While sign order is shown for a conversation of topic then comment, what if you are signing a song? Would it be appropriate to just sign each word as the singer sings it? Especially with some songs where the words can come quickly, if you have to wait and rearrange the words after the singer has already sung them, you’d end up getting far behind, and that would be very difficult to keep up.

Objects quiz

Hello! I am hearing, and new to learning ASL. I still struggle with the order and structure of ASL but I'm doing my best! In the Objects quiz, the first question is to translate "My car is black." No matter what I try, I get it wrong! I still passed the quiz, but since that was the only one I got wrong... it's bothering me and I would like to know to fix my mistake. What order should the signs come in? My first guess was My - Car - Black, but then I thought maybe Car would come first since it's the subject? Am I overthinking this?

sign order

I am not sure about sign order. One of the questions in a section exam is to pick the sign order for the phrase “My car is black.” I have tried every combination of selecting the signs for my, car, black … rearranging the signs like “car black my” or “my car black” or “car my black” … and none of them are correct. What is the correct order? My main critique of this app is that it does not adequately teach sentence structure. It mentions it like once and gives no continued instruction to understand how to handle new adjectives.

"The dog is brown" vs. "A brown dog"?

Can someone help differentiate how to sign these? I just started learning via this app and feel silly for not understanding the difference?

Are most youtube videos reliable to watch for asl??

To start I've been watching videos signing songs in asl And I'm worried that some either are exact signing of the words (I forgot the name but it's when you don't use asl grammer like how you don't say my name is you say my name, me or Or wrong/outdated I was watching someone signing "Beautiful Boy" and when he signed "Before You Sleep" I had to look it up "before" since he did it too fast on my other app and it was different and I want to make sure that isn't common to put up fake or exact wording to asl + any rec of any people I can watch (ALSO EXTRA DONT GOTTA READ the reason I'm doing it like this is so I can sign while in my room singing because I haven't found a way to sign and have a convo bc I'm not really a talker + I do Karioki on Roblox, so I'm singing a lot)

help with grammer/structure

Hello intersign! I've only recently started learning ASL and was wonder if anyone has any tips for remembering the different grammer rules and general structure of ASL. I find that whenever I try to practice, I always accidentally slip into English structure. Any help is appreciated, thank you in advance!

How do you identify the topic

If you have to sign topic words first, and there's a sentence about 2 things, what's the sign going first?

Difference in structure, difference in meaning?

Hi guys! I'm a bit confused. Do sentences like “Some rabbits eat fruits” and “The rabbits eat some fruits” get signed differently? The first one is signed with this word order : FRUITS SOME RABBITS EAT". How would you sign the other one? Do I have to change the word order for this slight difference, or is it expressed otherwise?

N&M

I see that n and m is different than the way I originally learned. Which way is correct?

AvatarCaroline 2/6/2026 5 1

are good vs good

There is a sign for good (open hand at chin moves down) And a sign for "are good" as in apples are good. (Open hand palm up, taps on top of second open hand palm) Is this for grammar reasons? Is there a different sign for "Is good"? As in Brad is good.

Non-gendered word for boyfriend/girlfriend

Does anyone know what the nongendered sign for partner / lover / boyfriend / girlfriend is? I've heard the middle of the face is used for nonbinary people sometimes (rather than the forehead for male signs and the chin for female signs) but I don't know the specific hand motion. Thanks!
